Spring Sweet Table

Wow! It's been a month since I last posted. I bet you thought I had abandoned the blog. Well no fret folks, it's just been a busy month with moving and starting a new volunteer gig two nights a week and starting SweetTable.ca.

I finally baked in my new place which was pretty exciting, I have a lot more room to move around and to store things. For this sweet table, I made homemade marshmallows, Oreo truffles, cupcakes and a green ombre rose cake. They all turned out great and I can't wait to make some more marshmallows; I think it takes a bit to get them to turn out just right.

The pictures from the sweet table aren't back from the photographer yet, but until then here are some shots from my iPhone.

We'll put some more photos up later!

Enjoy,

Gluten Free Muffins

So this past week I have made a couple of recipes. I tried out some cranberry walnut muffins and some corn bread muffins. The conclusion I have come to is that you either have to freeze or eat the muffins right away. Due to the amount of flour in them, they go dry really quickly.

I've decided not to post the recipes for them because I feel that they are not worth sharing. This week I ordered four new gluten free baking books and I can't wait to try some recipes from them, especially that Valentine's Day is approaching. I will need to find a great recipe to make my loved one.

I'm sure to find a good one in one of the two Babycakes books I ordered, I'm super excited for these ones.

And an Artisanal Cupcake book from Kelli & Peter Bronski

I can't wait to blog more about my gluten free adventures.

Dingbat Press

I recently ordered some beautiful letterpress cupcake recipe cards and a little "sweets" notebook from Dingbat Press it came in a cute envelope with a very nice thank you card. I've been looking at her stuff for the past couple of years and finally decided to purchase some. She not only makes beautiful stationary but business cards and wedding invitations. Here's some pictures of what I got.

Enuka Okuma Wedding Cupcakes

I recently had the wonderful opportunity of attending and got to make cupcakes for the beautiful Enuka Okuma on her very special wedding day.  Although I don't have pictures yet, the cupcakes were shown on a clip from Entertainment Tonight Canada.  The part with the cupcakes is at the end but I think you should watch the whole thing, it was the most beautiful wedding.  Congrats Joe & Enuka! xo

Enjoy!

OMG Baked Goodness

Back in April, my friend Cailin from A White Picket Fence and I went on a mini-cupcake crawl to a couple of cupcakeries in Toronto.  It was a wet and gloomy day but we didn't mind as we were in search for some awesome cupcakes.  Our first stop was OMG Baked Goodness which is located on Dundas St. W. between Dufferin St. and Lansdowne, a very cute shop.

Now let me start off saying that I really don't enjoy vegan cupcakes and that's just what OMG is a vegan cupcake store that also sells tarts, sweet breads and other sweets.  But we were there for the cupcakes, and I guess the cupcakes were good but nothing compared to regular eggs and dairy cupcakes. Cailin and I bought three different kinds of cupcakes.

So my review - the chocolate cupcake I had it was a good dense chocolate cupcake.  The vanilla, cupcake tasted like a corn muffin.  It was really lacking the sweetness you'd expect.  The carrot we tried was really good, the spices were perfect and the cream cheese icing was not too dense, but it did taste like a muffin and not a cupcake (I have a major issue with textures of things!).  Probably my biggest issue was that the icing had gone all hard, it was like they were sitting out for a long time and when we got there they had only been opened for one hour.

All in all, I wouldn't go back again but that's because I'm not vegan and I can eat regular cupcakes.  If I was it would probably be my go to shop for vegan desserts.

Friday Favourites

I can't believe it's almost the end of May, this is my first Friday Favourites in a really long time.  Hopefully you will enjoy some of the stuff posted here.  Of course I'm going to include a plug for my soap business.

Here we go
  • In Toronto there is a group of awesome bike riders that organize the Cupcake Bike Ride, May's ride is taking place this weekend.  I can't wait to go!
  • Goodies Gourmet Soap's fragrance contest is almost over, you have until May 31st to get your ideas in.
  • These amazing rainbow chocolate chip cookies are made by Jessie the CakeSpy mastermind.
  • This party looks amazing, especially the cupcakes from Amelie's House.
  • Susan Yuen makes the cutest bento boxes and her pictures are great.
  • Nadege Patisserie is a French cafe in Toronto, prices are a little high and some of the products aren't the best but what is the best is their Salted Caramel macarons.
Also my friend Cailin has moved her blog back to Tumblr, so check that out too.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Toronto Bakes for Japan was a success!

Wow, thanks so much Toronto for coming out and supporting Toronto Bakes for Japan.  They raised over their $10,000 goal.  Toronto Bakes for Japan made over half of it on Saturday at Brickworks Farmers Market and the rest on Sunday at Liberty Noodle, The Rivoli, Cafe Diplomatico and Cafe Amaranto.

There was so many awesome baked goods, from butter tarts to brownies, savoury tarts and biscuits, cookies and of course cupcakes.

Here's a little round up of the goodies.
