February Favourites

I only have a couple days left (as it's Feb 26th) for being lazy and still being able to do my Friday Favourites on whatever day I please.

I found some pretty good stuff this week. So please check it out.

  • Found this really cool cupcake pop mold from My Little Cupcake. It's too bad that they are doing so well, (well it's really good) but because of low inventory they are not selling outside of the U.S. nor accepting non-US paypal accounts.  I have a mailing address in the US and I can't even buy one and send it there. :(
  • An awesome Instructionables on how to make your own cream eggs.
  • If you haven't already checked my post on Andie's Specialty Sweets, you should definitely check them out.
  • Finally, I found a great video on how to ice your cupcakes just like Billy's Bakery in New York (P.S. I can't wait until August as I get to go to NY for the first time, I'm totally doing a crazy cupcake crawl while there).
Hope everyone has a great weekend, time to make some mini's for an order. Chocolate and Blood Orange, yummy!

Enjoy!

Andie's Speciality Sweets

Sugar Strawberries

I found this awesome sugar decoration outfit from California on etsy called Andie's Specialty Sweets.  They offer  handmade, sugar decorations, sculpted marzipan, & decorated cookies. All products of their  are made-to-order & shipped directly from their studio in California.

Here's a little bit of info from their store.

"Our made from scratch sugar embellishments can take up to two weeks to dry, and need to be made well in advance of the cake decorating event. We also like to suggest placing your order no later than 3 months before your event so we can give you utmost priority.

All of our cake decorations are made to order. We want your special event to be fresh in every way right down to every detail."

I think all of their stuff looks absolutely amazing.  My fav are the mushrooms.  Please check out Andie's store to see all of the creative products they offer.

Spread the love!

Funfetti Cupcakes and Friday Favourites...on a Saturday

Busy week again this week with work, volunteering and meeting up (finally) with my twitter/blog, now real friend Cailin from A White Picket Fence.  Therefore, no Friday Favourites but I'm making up for it with an extra bonus of homemade funfetti cupcakes.

What are funfetti cupcake you might ask. Well they are just regular cupcakes with sprinkles in them.  Pretty easy eh!  I decided to make these cupcakes because I had a order for four dozen cupcakes for a team of figure skaters and they wanted a star theme.  I went out and got some colourful star sprinkles, a star chocolate mold and some yellow confectionary melts and made some pretty awesome looking cupcakes.

Which colours should I use?

Purple and Orange, all done with the chocolate stars

Now for the Friday Favourites, although I wasn't on the net a lot this week I still found some pretty awesome stuff.

  • A great "how to" over at Cake Journal on how to make macarons.
  • These awesome lip pops over at Bakerella, great for anytime of the year.
  • This super cool picture taken of a band called Change of the Light Brigade, each person was taken individually then composed together, excellent work over at mk:photographics.
  • Some nice stuff over at Pinks and Needle's etsy, a really cute cupcake pin.
  • Made these awesome lava cakes by Paula Dean for Valentine's Day.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, see ya next Friday!

Chocolate Chip Cupcakes

This is my first Martha Stewart Cupcakes Club in a really long time. I joined the club right at the beginning, but lost interest when I wasn't enjoying the product I was making from the cookbook. Well, this month wasn't the best time to start up again. The cupcakes turned out dense and heavy just like a muffin.  I find a lot of the recipes for the cookbook are like this. There is a HUGE difference between a cupcake and a muffin.  The first and foremost is the density of it, if it's dense it's a MUFFIN. I made the cupcakes for my students and at least they enjoyed them.

Thanks to Rebecca from the Baking Sisters for choosing this month's cupcake.  Next month Candied Hazelnut Cupcakes.  If you'd like to learn more about the baking club click here and please make sure to check out the other member's blogs.

Happy Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day I decided to make mini cupcakes for my students and regular sized ones for my coworkers.  After seeing a post on Bake It In A Cake a while back I thought what a perfect idea for Valentine's Day.  Instead of tinting half of the batter I chose to use Red Velvet instead, and for the white part I thought I'd use part of the recipe for the cupcakes I needed to bake for the Martha Stewart Cupcake Club on the 15th.

Here are some photos of my mini red velvet and chocolate chip cupcakes and the heart in a cupcakes.

Hope everyone had an excellent Valentine's Day and for those without a Valentine's it will come, I remember the days when I hated February 14th. I think you should eat a cupcake anyways.  Off to make dinner for my honey. :)

Enjoy!
